2007 Report

Dear Praying Family,

2007 has drawn to a close. As always, God’s grace and mercy amazes us. We marvel at His love and power which transforms lives and sustains us. We thank God for rewarding your investment and blessing His ministry here in Peru. Your prayers call on the resources of heaven and your generosity delivers God’s provision as we serve Him together.

Earthquake update
(visit www.abweperu.org/earthquake for pictures and more)

The earthquake in southern Peru in August presented an urgent need and a unique opportunity. Many of you contributed to the relief and reconstruction effort. We received funds for 61 wooden houses most of which were built and delivered by teams of volunteers. God also provided nearly $100,000 for the first phase of rebuilding damaged churches and our camp near the epicenter.

There is an ongoing opportunity to build wooden houses for about $800 each. Although months have passed, many people are still living in tents and makeshift shelters. We have built houses for every affected family we know of from our churches. We have also begun to build
houses for families in the neighborhood of those churches with an evangelistic emphasis. One neighbor lady, Flor (“Flower” – pictured at right with her son), was overjoyed and grateful when the church replaced her tent with a house. She immediately asked to talk to pastor Juan and his wife and accepted Christ as her Savior. María and Dulia, who also received houses, accepted Christ as well. Several other neighbors have become believers and are attending the church even though we have been unable to help them with housing. Pray for funds to build more houses!

Please pray for the situation with our camp near Pisco. Most of the buildings were damaged and need to be rebuilt. However, we have been unable to do much because the municipality wants to take several meters of our beachfront property to build a boardwalk. This could actually be God’s way of providing as a fair reimbursement for the property would supply sufficient funds to rebuild many of the buildings. On the other hand, this is a long and complicated process and we have had to cancel camp this year since all construction has been stopped.

Living Hope Baptist Church

We recently finished registering the church officially. Please pray as the church should soon call deacons and a full time Peruvian pastor. We had 85 people at our Christmas program! Pray for our church to grow in Christ and be effective in our witness.

Our growing family

Alison is running around and getting into everything. She talks a lot, but we don’t really understand much. We’re learning though! She says “hi”, “amen” and a few other words quite clearly. The big news is that Alison has a new baby brother or sister on the way! We expect his/her arrival in July.

Once again, thank you all for your involvement in our ministry!

Rejoicing in Him,
Jonathan, Angela, Alison, and ?? Stone
